Introvert weekend
Saturday, 15 November 2014

A little tidbit about me: a few days before the first semester ended, I accidentally twisted my right knee so much that I tore my meniscus and earned myself an inconvenient sprain. I already went to a doctor and was told it's nothing too serious. He did prescribe me with what I assume is a painkiller and two weeks' worth of physical therapy. So, suffice it to say, whatever plans I had set for myself in my two weeks off had to be overridden, and my break was dedicated mostly to nursing my injury. Funny how I sound so much like an athlete right now because ironically, I'm not. HAHA!

But one thing I learned about myself from that period was the extent to which I actually enjoyed being detached. It felt liberating so much so that as much as I missed my friends, I wasn't looking forward to seeing them (or anyone else, for that matter) again. At least not yet.

Which brings me to The Silmarillion. In the past, when I felt like being an introvert but not attending classes and/or avoiding people were simply not possible, I found myself resorting to reading the book. As pretentious as it may sound, every time, my intention was always "to drown myself in Tolkien's words." And now that sembreak is on the brink of ending, I'm at it again. Getting immersed in the creation and history of Middle-earth, clinging on to as much detachment as I can before it all goes away again.

I'm definitely going to miss this!
